My wife and I enjoyed the 2007 Asheville Film Festival and look forward to this year’s events. One suggestion regarding the actual showing of selected movies. We saw several movies at the Fine Arts Theater and noticed that the projectors used were not always appropriate for the DVD format selected by the movie’s producers (at least this is what we were told when we advised both volunteers and theater personnel). On at least two occasions, the images in the movies were accordingly distorted which we are sure would have dismayed the producers were they present during the showing. Suggest there be an effort made to ensure there is a match of the equipment required for showing the movies with the theater’s abilities. Or perhaps notify patrons of the problem before the movie is shown so they don’t worry about something that can’t be helped. Regards, Hank Young |

Stating and publicizing that three films, that screened at the 2007 Asheville Film Festival, received Academy Awards nods is about as bad as giving any type of Lifetime Achievement Award to an over inflated busted scream queen. Just because any studio or distribution company would send out a just-for-the-oscars-season-specific film to this or any other film festival is none the reason to spread it all over the headlines here. The first years of the festival created an excitement and buzz around the city, but this year one would not know any better that an event was happening in Pack Square besides the replacement of the ill-fated barnyard animals whose lives had been taken way, way too early in life. What happened to the black-tie events? ACT AS IF Asheville Film Festival! You will not bring in the higher-level films unless you put on the production that most of the filmmakers out there expect of their own product. Unless you pick up your feet and make a sacrifice, I hate to say, but how much longer will this once great event sound the ass-trumpet and deflate like a sad little whoopee cushion under the pressure of mediocrity. I love this town! Let the arts sing free in the Paris of the South; Not smell like its cheese and people. Paris that is. At least the cheese part. We have smelly people here as well. |

I agree. Not showing the artists original intent in the proper aspect ration is like some little lost thirteen year old girl watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s for the first time on an iPhone and dressing like Holly Golightly… Until she goes through her Madonna in Vision Quest phase that is. |

Are you planning to update this website anytime soon? Most links send you to 2007 events. It’s a little over 2 months away folks...you need to get on the ball. |

I am very disappointed in your lack of updated information on this website. It is as if you really care nothing for people who only want to know basic details like venues, times, etc. Some of us want to make travel arrangements but cannot until more useful info is available and you are not doing a good job of keeping the public informed. |
